This is the first of a few posts I'll be making in the next few days to celebrate Christmas in a healthy mindset. This doesn't mean you shouldn't go for the second (or third) gingerbread cookie or helping of stuffing, but simply a way to be conscious in recipes or drinks that usually have many empty calories. I love making my own holiday drinks over store-bought since I really like adding in fruit. A pre-made drink is already full of sugar and preservatives so this drink offers a more natural way to enjoy a sweet Christmas toast. The sugar and honey rims give the drink a nice holiday touch I'm sure your guests will enjoy. Let me know what you think and have a great evening with the ones you love.
HEALTHY HOLIDAY DRINK
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup of frozen cranberries
- 1/2 cup of frozen raspberries
- 1 cup of Perrier
- 2 tbsp of sugar
- 2 tsp of honey
- 1.5 oz of alcohol (optional)
- 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
Directions
Place the cranberries and raspberries in a bowl and microwave for 30-45 seconds. Rim your glass with and even layer of honey, spreading it out with your finger so it is not too thick. Place the sugar on a plate and coat the honey with it. Add the fruit to the glass and pour in the perrier. Add the alcohol of your choice (Gin, Vodka and Rum typically have a shot under 100 calories) or have this drink without and add in 1 tsp of honey and a sweetener. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve and enjoy!
Note: If cranberries are too sour for your taste, consider frozen strawberries or blueberries.
If you haven't noticed, I like keeping in the teaspoon in the drink to scoop the fruit. You can substitute this for small holiday spoons or do the same if you have enough measuring spoons. |
Merry Christmas Eve from my family to yours!
